The RTFC Hypertext Wizard

The Hypertext Wizard is the graphical interface of RTFC. It is included in the scope of delivery for all software editions.

  • The operation can be adapted to personal needs: choose between user, default and expert mode to determine the extent of dialog boxes and controls
  • Integration with File Explorer: select the document you want to convert and launch the wizard from the context menu
  • Integration with Microsoft Word: Start converting the currently open document from the Add-ins tab on the Word ribbon
  • Flexible management of settings: The wizard saves your settings on a document-specific basis. If you call it up again with the same document, you can start the conversion immediately with the previous settings
  • As an alternative to the individual settings for each source document, you can also work with default settings for each output format or perform a format-only conversion (equivalent to a word processor-like export filter)
  • The numerous parameters for the conversion of your documents can be selected intuitively. Contradictory settings are excluded by the wizard
  • If additional control files are required for the conversion, they can be edited directly from the wizard
  • The page layout of the generated documents can be varied using predefined or custom layout templates
  • Braille styling settings can be saved as text profiles and reused
  • Configurable file types: choose the program to preview your documents regardless of Windows system settings
  • Detailed online help and mouse cursor hints make it easier to use the Wizard

The wizard allows you to convert your documents in five simple steps, which are briefly presented on the following pages.

Step 1: Select Source Files

[Figure 1]

You can access the wizard directly from File Explorer by selecting a file and selecting the "Convert with RTFC" menu item in the context menu (right mouse button).

Step 2: Select Output Format and Target Parameters

[Figure 2]

The Hypertext Wizard "memorizes" your settings on a file-by-file basis and allows you to convert documents that have already been processed without repeating the following steps.

Step 3: Define the Title and Document Structure

[Figure 3]

The structure of the source documents can be optimally taken into account and converted into individual pages. Cross-references to headings are automatically resolved if desired and headings are numbered if necessary.

Step 4: Create Hypertext Lists and Index Entries

[Figure 4]

Table of contents, glossary and index from the document are substituted by screen-compatible hypertext lists. The keyword index and glossary, as well as a local search engine, can be created by RTFC even if the source documents do not contain any of the corresponding lists.

Step 5: Choose the page layout

[Figure 5]

Layout templates enable the implementation of your corporate design. Predefined templates provide a professional look and feel for your HTML pages. Virtually all page elements can be customized and saved for future documents.

Ready!

You can also use the wizard to prepare complex hypertext projects by saving the command-line parameters for your Makefiles to a configuration file.
